The Assam government’s unwavering commitment to advancing sports excellence will be realised with the opening of the Badminton Association of India (BAI) National Centre of Excellence. This significant occasion will take place on August 11 at the Amingaon Indoor Stadium in Guwahati.

The upcoming Centre will be located within the cutting-edge Amingaon Indoor Stadium and is expected to revolutionise badminton training and talent development. This state-of-the-art facility will contain several top-notch amenities, seasoned national and international coaches, and first-rate support infrastructure.

At the Center’s opening, which is the result of a partnership between the Assam Government and BAI, notable members of India’s prestigious badminton community will be present. The Sports and Youth Welfare Department of Assam will effectively monitor the administrative and operational duties of the Centre, while the Badminton Association of India will competently handle the technical components.

The BAI National Centre of Excellence, which is remarkable in scope and ambition, will house an incredible 24 badminton courts and have seating for almost 5,000 spectators. This enormous project brings together a number of courts under one roof and is meant to become India’s biggest badminton centre.

The National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati has hired Indonesian Mulyo Handoyo as its singles head coach, while the Badminton Association of India (BAI) has also hired two other international instructors for the recently built facility.

The doubles coach will be former All England champion Russian Ivan Sozonov, while the third foreign coach will be Korea’s Park Tae-sang, who helped PV Sindhu win a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

The felicitation of the victorious Indian men’s badminton team, victors of the 2022 Thomas Cup, would be a historic highlight of the opening. The Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, will be present as the BAI president bestows this honour. The Guest of Honour will be Taufik Hidayat, Badminton Legend.

Beyond its immediate effects, the Centre of Excellence will diligently identify and develop grassroots local and national talent in order to position them for bright careers in the badminton industry.
