BNI Indonesia Masters 2023: Indian Contenders Shine Despite Losses

The 2023 Indonesia Masters Super 100 I (official and sponsored title: BNI Indonesia Masters I 2023) is an international badminton competition that is taking place from 5 to 10 September 2023 at GOR PBSI Pancing Medan in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia.

The tournament has a prize fund of $100,000 and is a BWF Tour Super 100 event. The Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) organises this competition, which is sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF).

On the 9th of September, the event reached a fever pitch as Indian players Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa battled it out in the Semi Finals, ultimately losing to the Indonesian pair of Lanny Tria MAYASARI and Ribka SUGIARTO. The final score was 20-22, 21-16, 21-13 in favor of the Indonesian duo. Despite their loss, Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa’s performance showcased their talent and tenacity, earning them respect from fans and fellow athletes alike.

Meanwhile, Kiran George soared to victory in the Men’s Singles Semifinals, adding another feather to India’s cap. It was a thrilling contest that had fans on the edge of their seats. Kiran George emerged victorious with a final score of 23-21, 16-21, 21-8. His resilience and composure in the deciding game sealed his place in the Finals, showcasing India’s growing presence in the world of badminton.

Apart from the memorable performances of Tanisha Crasto, Ashwini Ponnappa, and Kiran George, several other players from different countries have also qualified for the Finals of the BNI Indonesia Masters 2023:

Mixed Doubles: Roy King YAP and Valeree SIOW and Hiroki NISHI and Akari SATO

Women’s Singles: Ester Nurumi Tri WARDOYO.

Women’s Doubles: CHANG Ching Hui and YANG Ching Tun
Men’s Doubles: Sabar Karyaman GUTAMA and Moh Reza Pahlevi ISFAHANI.

Men’s Singles: Koo TAKAHASHI
