On Wednesday, the Indian Women enjoyed a successful day in the Odisha Masters event. Singles players Unnati Hooda and Kiran George, as well as doubles pair Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto, advanced to the next round at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack.
On Wednesday, Ponnappa and Crasto expressed confidence in court. The pair just won their second Super 100 championship at the Guwahati Masters. With the victory, they climbed to a career-high 24th place in the BWF World Rankings. The Indian team easily defeated the UAE’s Aleena Qathun and Nayonika Rajesh, winning 21-7, 21-14 to advance to the Round of 16.
After Tanisha and Ashwini easily won the first set, the UAE duo staged a comeback in the second set, levelling the score at 8-8. The Indians, however, regained their calm and led 17-11, taking the game away from Aleena and Nayonika. Since then, the Indian pair has won the match handily.
Tanisha and Ashwini’s domination and consistency over the previous four weeks indicate that the duo may also make the most of the Odisha Masters.
In another women’s doubles match, Palak Arora and Unnati Hood were defeated 7-21 13-21 by Simran Singhi and Ritika Thaker.
Unnati, on the other hand, played a determined singles match to defeat Uganda’s Husina Kobugabe 21-10, 21-8 to move to the next round.
