At the 2023 World Aquatics Championships, Bobby Finke triumphed in the 800-meter freestyle final in 7:38.67, breaking the previous American record in the process. He also won Team USA’s first medal.
The former Gator shattered his personal mark (7:39.36), which he had previously established at the Budapest 2022 World Aquatics Championships.
Bella Sims, a female competitor, placed sixth overall in the 200-meter freestyle finals on Wednesday morning with a time of 1:56.00.
The USA’s incoming freshman finished her World Championships by qualifying for both the 200-meter and 400-meter freestyle finals. She finished ninth after swimming a 4:05.37 in the 400m free on July 23rd and recorded a lifetime best 1:55.45 in the 200m free semifinals on Tuesday morning.
Canada’s Joshua Liendo placed eighth in his heat with a time of 48.22 during the semifinals on Wednesday morning. The rising sophomore won the preliminary round with a 48.03 on Tuesday night. Alberto Mestre, a former Gator, placed ninth in his heat by swimming a 49.80 in the preliminary round.
