On Thursday, India defeated China 7-2 in their Asian Champions Trophy 2023 opening at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in Chennai. In the first quarter, India seized a 2-0 lead thanks to a fast brace from captain Harmanpreet Singh, who converted back-to-back penalty corners.

Meanwhile, Sukhjeet scored to make it 3-0 at the end of the first quarter. Akashdeep made it 4-0 early in the second quarter, but Wenhui capitalised on a defensive mistake as China launched a comeback to make it 1-4.

Varun scored again at the end of the second quarter to put the home team up 6-2. Mandeep deflected a dragflick in the third quarter, giving India a 7-2 advantage. India had a few more chances in the fourth quarter, but some good waves stops by China’s custodian saw the game conclude 7-2.

India’s performance in the tournament’s opening match demonstrated their strength and commitment. The squad has set a high benchmark for future matches with such a convincing performance.
