India Clinches Historic Fourth Title: A Sensational Comeback Against Malaysia in Asian Champions Trophy 2023 Final

On Saturday, the Indian men’s hockey team recovered from two goals behind to upset Malaysia 4-3 in the Asian Champions Trophy 2023 final at Chennai’s Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium. With this triumph, India surpassed Pakistan as the most successful team in the Asian Champions Trophy.

India’s goals came from Jugraj Singh (9′), Harmanpreet Singh (45′), Gurjant Singh (45′), and Akashdeep Singh (56′), while Malaysia’s came from Abu Kamal Azrai (14′), Razie Rahim (18′), and Aminudin Muhamad (28′).

Jugraj Singh scored in the first quarter to give India an early lead, but Kamal Abu Arzai countered to tie the game at one. Then, in the second quarter, Razie Rahim scored a penalty corner to put Malaysia up 2-1.

The visitors took a 3-1 lead when Aminudin Muhamad scored on a penalty corner late in the second quarter. Harmanpreet Singh scored a penalty stroke in the third quarter to make it 2-3, and Gurjant equalised.

With the score 3-3, Akashdeep scored a late winner to enable India win its fourth ACT title.
