Lakshya Sen set to headline 85th Senior National Badminton Championships

Shuttle to the stars Lakshya Sen will compete in the next Senior National Badminton Championship, which will be held in Guwahati beginning December 20.

The 85th Senior National Badminton Championships, as well as the 76th Inter-State and Inter-Zonal team tournaments, will be held in Assam by the Assam Badminton Association. Omar Rashid, secretary of the Assam Badminton Association, told the media today that the next games will include 500 players from 39 teams.

Both meetings will be conducted at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phukan Indoor Stadium and the Kanaklata Indoor Stadium.

With the BWF Tour finals concluding the international badminton season, Lakshya can utilise the competition to prepare for the Malaysia Open 2024, which acts as the first tournament in 2024 for Paris.

In men’s singles, Lakshay, Kiran George, and Kartikey Gulshan are seeded second and third, respectively. Unseeded competitors include B Sai Praneeth, S Sankar Muthuswamy, and Sameer Verma.

Aakarshi Kashyap and Ashmita Chahila will be the first and second seeds in the women’s singles, respectively, while Anupama Upadhayay will be the fourth seed. Malvika Bansod will begin the main draw as an unseeded player, while Unnati Hooda will be seeded 12th.

Men’s doubles will be led by Dhruv Kapila and Arjun MR, while women’s doubles will be led by R Arubala and Varshini VS. N Sikki Reddy and Rohan Kapoor will be the top seed in mixed doubles.

The Badminton Association of India has stated that the total prize money for the competition is Rs 50 lakh (10 lakh for the Team Championship and Rs 40 lakh for the open category). The men’s and women’s singles champions will each get Rs 3.25 lakh.
