PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, confirmed the employment of her coach Hafiz Hashim via her social media account. The former Malaysia International has various awards to his record, the most notable of which being the All England Championships title he won in 2003. He has agreed to teach PV Sindhu till the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Hafiz Hashim signed a three-year deal with the Suchitra Academy in Hyderabad in February 2023 after quitting the Badminton Malaysia Academy coaching lineup in December last year. He has been teaching Sindhu since his arrival at the Suchitra Academy, however the SAI (Sports Authority of India) just granted PV Sindhu’s request.

Prior to Hashim, Sindhu’s coach was Park Tae-Sang of Korea, with whom she worked for over three years. The Commonwealth Games 2022 gold champion earned her second straight medal at Tokyo 2020 under Park’s tutelage.

With the Olympic Games in Paris just a year away, the Malyasian coach will have his work cut out for him. Sindhu, 28, has struggled to find consistency this season, dropping out of the top 15 in the most current BWF rankings. The Indian must return to her peak form and collect vital Olympic ranking points within the time span allotted.
