Rising Stars: India’s U-16 Basketball Squad Revealed for FIBA Asian Championships 2023

The Basketball Federation of India (BFI) has announced the squad of the upcoming FIBA U-16 Asian Championships 2023. The tournament is scheduled to take place between 17th to 24th September in Doha, Qatar.

The Indian U-16 men’s Basketball team is placed in Group A alongside Australia, Lebanon and Sri Lanka. The top two teams from the each group moves to the pre-quaterfinals stage.

In 2022, India went on to defeat Indonesia and became the first ever South Asian country to qualify for the quarterfinals of FIBA U-16 Asian Championships historic. The Hoopsters won an intense clash over Iran in classification Game by five points. The young Cagers also beat Korea for the first time in the competition and clinched the 5th place in Asia – which is the best performance in decades.

BFI had announced a cash prize of Rs.10,00,000 for the Indian U-16 Men Basketball for clinching 5th spot in the FIBA U-16 Asian Championship 2022 held at Doha. Kushal Singh was named in All-Star Five for the FIBA U-16 Asian Championship 2022.

Jins Kalayil Joby, Kailash Bishnoi, Lavish (Captain), Lokesh Kumar Sharma, Tajinderbir Singh, Mohit Jogchand, Adavan Chellam Kumaresan, Ankush, Aryan Sharma, Mirthul Vel Dhanasekar, Jagmeet Singh, Harjeet Singh.

Head Coach: Ram Kumar

Coach: Asad Ullah Khan.

Lavish Choudhary who led India to the top spot in the SABA U-16 qualifiers, continues to lead the side at the Asian Championships.
