V S Anupriya, a shot putter from Kasaragod, earned the bronze medal in the Trinbago Commonwealth Youth Games at Trinidad and Tobago’s Port of Spain.

Anupriya threw a distance of 15.62 metres on Monday night at Hasely Crawford Stadium to win India’s second medal in the Under-18 athletics competition.

Alicia Eli Khunou of South Africa won the gold medal with a championship-record leap of 17.97 metres, and Xylavene Beale of Australia took home the silver (16.1 metres).

Anupriya, 16, qualified for the Commonwealth Youth Games after taking home the bronze medal in the Asian U-18 Athletics Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in April. Anupriya is coached by K C Gireesh.

Shoan Ganguly, a swimmer from Karnataka, took home the silver medal in the 400-meter individual medley in the men’s division. Ganguly beat Aryan Nehra’s record-breaking time of 4:27:62 from the Nationals last month.
