SINGAPORE, 12 July 2024 – Come 11 July 2025, Singapore will be hosting over 2,500 of the
world’s best aquatics athletes across six sports at the World Aquatics Championships –
Singapore 2025. At the one-year countdown event, Guest-of-Honour Mr. Eric Chua, Senior
Parliamentary Secretary for Culture, Community and Youth & Social and Family Development,
together with the co-chairs of the Singapore 2025 organising committee, unveiled the
Singapore 2025 logo and tagline, ‘Water Shapes Us’, at the OCBC Aquatic Centre. The event
was attended by about 80 athletes and officials from the aquatics fraternity.

The values of adaptability and resilience are the main themes behind the logo and tagline.
The tagline also underscores the theme for the championships, preparation, and the eventual
celebration when Singapore stages one of aquatics’ most prestigious events. (Refer to Annex
A for an explanation of the Singapore 2025 logo and tagline).

Mr. Alan Goh, Singapore 2025 organising committee co-chairperson and Chief Executive
Officer of Sport Singapore, said: “We are pleased to start the one-year countdown to the
World Aquatics Championships – Singapore 2025 today. Singapore will be the first Southeast
Asian country to host a World Aquatics Championships and this is a wonderful opportunity for
Singapore as a maritime nation to celebrate our achievements in many water-related
domains. Following this, Singapore will also host the World Para Swimming Championships in
September 2025, making us the first country to host both championships in the same year.
We hope that these events will inspire our next generation of aquatics athletes, and there will
be plenty of opportunities for people to be a part of the many events and activities. Our
organising committees are working hard to put together both world-class events, and we invite potential partners from the people, public and private sectors to join us in this whole-
of-nation effort as we celebrate this remarkable milestone.”
Venues for Aquatics Action
Several iconic spots in Singapore will be transformed into competition venues from 11 July to
3 August 2025. At the Singapore Sports Hub precinct, a brand-new temporary facility with an
estimated capacity of 4,800 seats will be built at Car Park G, near the Kallang Tennis and
Kallang Football Hub. The facility will host swimming and artistic swimming events. The
sheltered facility will comprise two pools, spectator stands and a Fan Zone with interactive
activities, merchandise areas, sponsors’ booths, and food and beverage stalls. The water polo
and diving events will take place at the OCBC Aquatic Centre at the Singapore Sports Hub.

The World Aquatics Championships action extends to Sentosa for open water swimming
(Palawan Beach) and high diving (Palawan Green). As the official venue partner, Sentosa will
host the AQUA Fiesta, ensuring more fans of aquatic sports can experience world-class
sporting action.
Singapore is also hosting the World Aquatics Masters Championships 2025, a mass
participation event for local and international participants aged 25 and above. More details
will be shared at a later date.
Singapore 2025 organising committee co-chairperson and President of Singapore Aquatics Mr.
Mark Chay said: “Singapore has much to be proud of in our strength as a host nation. We have
renowned facilities such as the OCBC Aquatic Centre, which has hosted numerous
international competitions including the 2015 SEA Games. We’ll also see innovative use of
available and suitable spaces such as Car Park G, located near the Kallang Tennis Hub and
Kallang Football Hub, and well-known locations such as Sentosa. These identified areas will be
transformed for high-level competition and for spectators to enjoy the best in aquatic sports.
These venues highlight our status as a suitable destination for hosting top international
sporting events, while also displaying our ability to be creative and adaptable so that we can
deliver the best possible experience.”
Ms. Thien Kwee Eng, Chief Executive Officer of Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC), said:
“We are thrilled to welcome the world’s top-notch swimmers and athletes to Sentosa to

Championships – Singapore 2025. As a resort island destination, besides being a venue for
world class competitions, participating athletes and visitors can enjoy a large variety of F&B

About the Singapore 2025 Logo and Tagline
Singapore is a dynamic city shaped by its vibrant culture, multicultural community, and lush
landscapes and waterways that thrive across the Lion City. The World Aquatics Championships
– Singapore 2025 identity reflects these elements. The event’s theme, ‘Water Shapes Us’,
encapsulates Singapore’s relationship with water and its significance in Singapore’s
development and identity as a nation. Water shapes Singapore’s geography and is crucial in
the nation’s economic growth. The tagline also demonstrates how the championships in
Singapore will nurture and celebrate opportunities for collective achievement and
camaraderie.

At the centre of the logo is the Merlion, an enduring symbol of Singapore that is recognised around the world and symbolises the strength and resilience of our people. The statue’s lion-
head is representative of Singapore’s original name of Singapura and its lower half is representative of Singapore’s origin as a fishing village. In the background, water is flowing
upward, representing progress and adaptability. To the right, the green flora represents our
vision for a city in the garden. The colour red is inspired by the Singapore flag, while the vibrant
colours represents Singapore’s dynamism in culture.

Quotes from Team Singapore Athletes
Debbie Soh Li Fei, Captain of Team Singapore Artistic Swimming:
“I’m excited that we get to host and compete at the biggest event on the World Aquatics
calendar on home soil, in the presence of our families, friends and biggest fans for the very
first time. I know that Singapore will rise to the occasion as a host nation and give the warmest
welcome to all participating countries, share our culture with them and help them feel at
home with us.
“Next year will also be Singapore’s 60th year of independence and having such an event could
help boost national pride and bring everyone together ahead of the National Day celebrations
in August!”
Jonathan Tan Eu Jin, Team Singapore Swimmer who has qualified for Paris 2024:
“As a Singaporean swimmer, I am thrilled at the news of Singapore hosting the World Aquatics
Championships in 2025! It’s an incredible opportunity for our country to showcase our passion
for swimming and our top-notch facilities to the world. I can’t wait to compete on home
ground for the first time at an international scale, and feel the support of our fellow
Singaporeans cheering us on.”
Quotes from International Athletes
Mate Anić, Croatia Men’s Water Polo goalkeeper and World Champion:
“The Croatian National Water Polo Team is always very focused and motivated when
approaching mega events like the World Aquatics Championships. As defending champions,
this motive is even greater, and we will do our best to retain the title in Singapore 2025. I am
sure the hosts will make another magnificent event, and we all look forward to it.”
Meg Harris, Australia swimmer, Olympic and World Championships gold medallist:
“This will be an amazing event, and I really hope I am selected to represent the Dolphins in
Singapore. In 2019, we were going to have a training camp there, but it was cancelled… so I
have never been to Singapore but have always wanted to visit.
“I have heard so much about its food and people. I love Southeast Asian food – some fruits,
like mangosteens, are like nothing else.
“From a meet point of view, you know it’s going to be well organised!”
