Lima, Peru, 25 August 2024 – WTT Contender Lima 2024 has come to a close at the Villa Deportiva Nacional, with Japan’s Satsuki Odo and Slovenia’s Darko Jorgic emerging as the standout champions in the Women’s and Men’s Singles events, respectively.

In the Women’s Singles final, Satsuki Odo secured her first WTT Series title with a commanding 4-0 victory over Huang Yi-Hua from Chinese Taipei (11-7, 11-8, 15-13, 12-10). Odo, already a dominant force with three WTT Feeder Series titles this year, proved unstoppable as she took control from the outset. “I’m so happy. But there are still lots of strong players out there. I want to get even better and win over even stronger players,” said Odo.

Huang, who had earlier delivered a standout performance by defeating top seed Xiaoxin Yang, couldn’t match Odo’s relentless pace. Both players are set to compete next at WTT Contender Almaty 2024. Speaking on her next event, Odo said: “There will be lots of strong players from my generation in Almaty as well as from China. I want to win against everyone and win a title again!”

Darko Jorgic claimed his first WTT Series singles title in the Men’s Singles final, defeating Germany’s Patrick Franziska in a decisive 4-0 match (11-5, 11-9, 11-3, 11-7). Both players had been chasing their first WTT Series titles, making this victory particularly sweet for Jorgic. The Slovenian, who had not reached a WTT Series final since 2022, left little room for Franziska to stage a comeback. On his win, Jorgic said: “The feeling is amazing, and I’m just really happy to win the WTT Contender title for the first time. Twice I had the chance, but I lost in the finals. So I’m really super happy.”

Looking ahead, Jorgic talks about his participation in the upcoming WTT Champions Macao 2024: “It’s only 32 of the world’s amazing players, so it’s going to be tough for sure. I will be practicing a lot to keep focused, and stay in shape until Macao, and hope for a good result.”

In the Women’s Doubles, the formidable Japanese duo of Sakura Yokoi and Satsuki Odo continued their winning streak, defeating Chinese Taipei’s Wang Yi-Ju and Huang Yi-Hua 3-0. This victory (11-7, 11-6, 11-7) extends their unbeaten record in 2024 and secures their third consecutive WTT Contender Women’s Doubles title.

The Men’s Doubles final saw Florian Bourrassaud and Esteban Dorr of France claim their first WTT Series title with a hard-fought 3-2 win over France and Malta duo Vincent Picard and Taehyun Kim. This victory (11-5, 10-12, 11-6, 10-12, 11-8) is a significant milestone for the French duo, who have been steadily building momentum throughout the season.

Brazil’s Henrique Noguti and Giulia Takahashi wrapped up the Mixed Doubles title earlier on Day 3 with a 3-1 win over Vincent Picard and Chilean Paulina Vega (11-4, 6-11, 11-9, 11-6), making their debut as an international pair a memorable one. Takahashi, beamed with excitement as she said: “It’s my first time winning in WTT Contender, so I feel very proud of us and very happy to be here.”

Lima marked the 16th WTT Series event of the 2024 season. The WTT Series now heads to WTT Contender Almaty 2024, with qualifying starting on 3 September. As the race to qualify for the season-ending WTT Finals Fukuoka 2024 intensifies, fans can expect more high-stakes table tennis action in the coming months, with WTT Champions Macao 2024 just around the corner, followed by the highly anticipated third WTT Grand Smash of the year, China Smash.
