Yamaguchi and Christie claim Singles title at BWF Hong Kong Open 2023

Jonatan Christie fought back in impressive style to claim his fifth badminton world tour title, winning the men’s singles at BWF Hong Kong Open 2023, live on Olympic Channel.

The Indonesian fifth seed lost the opening game to unseeded Nishimoto Kenta of Japan in the final on Sunday (17 September), but came from behind to win 12-21, 22-20, 21-18.

Women’s singles world number two Yamaguchi Akane beat unseeded Zhang Yi Man of China in their final, 21-18, 21-15.

For Japan’s Yamaguchi, the BWF Super 500 event win is a fifth title of the year on the World Tour.

Earlier, the women’s doubles title went to Indonesia’s seventh seeds Apriyani Rahayu / Siti Fedia Silva Ramadhanti, who overcame Pearly Tan and Muralitharan Thinaah 14-21, 24-22. 21-9.

The Mixed doubles final was won by Guo Xin Wa and Wei Ya Xin of China, over Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet of Hong Kong, China, 21-13, 21-19.

Denmark pair Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen beat Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin of Indonesia to win the Men’s doubles title.

The BWF Hong Kong Open 2023 is a Paris 2024 Qualifier, with players earning ranking points towards possible Olympic qualification.
