On Wednesday, the Indian men’s volleyball team defeated last year’s silver medalist South Korea 3-2 in a five-set thriller to advance to the knockout phase of the Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou.
India defeated three-time champions Korea 25-27, 29-27, 25-22, 20-25, 17-15 in their last Group C match, which lasted two hours and 38 minutes.
India seized the lead in their group after a 3-0 victory over Cambodia on Tuesday, earning a total of five points.
Amit Gulia and Ashwal Rai’s excellent efforts were critical to India’s win, as they contributed heavily to the team’s point total.
India will face either Chinese Taipei or Mongolia in the next round as they continue their quest for a medal.
It’s worth mentioning that India last won a medal in this tournament in 1986, when they took bronze. India finished 12th in the previous edition, which was held in Indonesia.
