National Games 2023: Palak Gulia and Rutuja Bhosale Shine Bright with Second Gold Wins

Shooter Palak Gulia of Haryana, tennis player Rutuja Bhosale of Maharashtra, and skeet shooter Angad Vir Bajwa of Punjab all won their second gold medals of the 37th National Games, as the fight for first place heated up with four days till the closing ceremony.

At the Manderem Shooting range, Gulia added the women’s 10m Air Pistol gold to her 10m Air Pistol mixed team gold, while Bajwa teamed up with Parinaaz Dhillon to capture mixed team skeet gold, bringing Haryana’s gold count to 48.

Later in the day, Odisha defeated Manipur in a penalty shootout to win the women’s football tournament at Tilak Maidan in Vasco. Both teams were tied at 1-1 at the end of regular and extra time, forcing the match to a tie-breaker. Odisha won the gold medal on penalties, 4-2. Earlier in the day, Haryana women defeated West Bengal 1-0 to win bronze in women’s football at the Tilak Maidan in Vasco.

Akanksha Salunkhe of Goa added another gold medal to the state’s total after defeating Pooja Arthi of Tamil Nadu in the final at the Chicalim multipurpose stadium 11-5, 11-4, 11-3.

Meanwhile, Bhosale added a mixed doubles trophy to her women’s doubles victory with Arjun Kadhe on Sunday. To win the gold medal, the Maharashtra duo defeated Tamil Nadu’s N Jeevan and C Sai Samitha 6-3, 6-1.
