Great Britain had a fantastic day at the 2023 World Rowing Cup III in Lucerne, Switzerland. They not only won the event’s medals (four gold, three silver, and two bronze), but they were also proclaimed World Rowing Cup Series winners at the end of racing.
Great Britain won the World Rowing Cup with 115 points, followed by Australia (103 points) and Switzerland (95 points). Britain won the men’s four, lightweight women’s double sculls, men’s quadruple sculls, and women’s eight events.
Oliver Wynne-Griffith and Thomas George won gold in the men’s pair to kick off Britain’s medal run on Sunday, ahead of Oliver Wilkes, David Ambler, Matthew Aldridge, and Freddie Davidson.

On the occasion of the 2023 World Rowing Cup III, two renowned scullers were also honoured: Mahe Drysdale of New Zealand, who received the Thomas Keller Medal, the sport’s highest accolade. In addition, Jeannine Gmelin of Switzerland, who just retired after the death of her longtime instructor, Robin Dowell.
