SINGAPORE, 7 OCTOBER 2024 – A sensational drive from teen racer Christian Ho in Jerez, Spain, last weekend saw him crowned the 2024 Eurocup-3 Rookie Champion by 93 points with one round to spare as the 17-year-old ensured the Eurocup-3 championship battle will go down to the wire at the final race weekend in November.

A clean sweep of Race 1 – in which he won the race, secured pole position and the fastest lap – and a fifth-place finish in Race 2 means Christian remains on the heels of championship leader Javier Sagrera. Christian is second of 32 drivers with 202 points, sandwiched between Spaniards Sagrera (228) and Bruno del Pino (192). Christian’s Campos Racing teammate Valentin Kluss is second in the rookie standings and fifth overall with 109 points.

In Jerez, MP Motorsport also won the Teams’ Championship on 490 points in the penultimate round while Christian’s Campos Racing remains second with 394 points.
The Singaporean teenager said: “We started the weekend strong with a clean sweep in Race 1, but I was a bit unlucky in qualifying on the second day when the red flag disrupted my fastest lap and Jerez is a difficult circuit to overtake on. But overall, I’m really happy with my performance in the Eurocup-3 so far. Winning the Rookie Champion title with one round remaining shows how consistent I’ve been throughout the season and it’s a big achievement for me to do this in just my first season here. I’ve put in a lot of hard work this year, alongside my team, and I’m just really glad to see all our hard work paying off. Congratulations to MP Motorsport for winning the Team Championship, it was a tough fight all season long and I really enjoyed that process. The last round is going to be big with the drivers’ champion up for grabs and it’s going to be a hard but exciting weekend and I’m ready for it. I just have to stay focused and keep working hard to make sure that I’ll be in the best shape physically and mentally for the last round.”

The Eurocup-3 is a stepping stone for drivers between F4 and FIA Formula 3. Each race weekend typically consists of two races, except in June where drivers raced three races in Portimao.
Christian set the pace from the start of the weekend, emerging the fastest driver in free practice and qualifying, where he claimed pole by 0.124sec from his closest rival in 1min 37.667sec for Race 1. He continued to dominate on the first day of racing, eventually winning in 33min 14.995sec, 9.37sec faster than championship rival Sagrera. The second day of the weekend saw Christian qualify sixth and he demonstrated masterful technique to finish one place higher in the race.

The final race weekend will be held from Nov 8-10 at the iconic Catalonia circuit in Barcelona.
Following the end of the 2024 Eurocup-3 season, Christian will make the historic step up to the FIA Formula 3 Championship next year and become the first Singaporean to do so. Details on his team will be announced when ready.
The FIA F3 championship is part of motorsport’s governing body FIA’s pathway aimed at helping drivers reach the pinnacle of the sport, sitting in between the FIA Formula 4 and Formula 2 championships. Most if not all F1 drivers go through the third-tier championship which serves as a feeder series.

The FIA F3 season typically takes place on the sidelines of F1 races at the same circuits. The 2024 season consists of 30 drivers (10 teams), 10 rounds and includes iconic venues such as England’s Silverstone, Monaco’s street circuit and the Red Bull Ring in Austria. The FIA F3 races are shown live globally on the F1 channel and take place a few hours before the F1 race. This will bring unprecedented exposure and more will be able to catch Ho in action.
