In a breathtaking Men’s Singles final, Lin Shidong (CHN) rose to the occasion, defeating the legendary Ma Long (CHN) with a hard-fought 4-3 victory (11-4, 7-11, 5-11, 13-15, 11-4, 11-5, 11-8) that left the audience in awe. This showdown marked a dramatic reversal from their previous encounter at Singapore Smash 2023, where Ma had triumphed 3-0, establishing himself as a three-time Men’s Singles World Champion and an Olympic gold medallist. But tonight, Lin, undeterred by Ma’s illustrious legacy, showcased the grit and skill that have defined his rise in the sport.
The Infinity ∞ Arena erupted as Lin, in his first WTT Grand Smash Singles final, battled back from Ma’s 3-1 lead, demonstrating remarkable resilience and tactical prowess. Having already clinched the Mixed Doubles title just two days prior, Lin was not to be denied, etching his name into the annals of table tennis history with this monumental victory and 16 straight wins on the WTT Series. As he lifted the coveted trophy, Lin Shidong signalled the arrival of a new force in the sport.
